Tubing at Winsport's Acura Tube Park

by - Friday, December 16, 2016

In December 2016, Calgary welcomed western Canada's biggest tube park at Winsport (Canada Olympic Park). We got to make first tracks at a sneak peek event and had a blast! Check out our video below to see how fun it was and please excuse me squealing like a little girl.

What We Loved

Besides the rush of flying down a 200 metre long hill, we loved how quick it was to get to the top for our next slide. Plenty of lanes and staff ensure that you can slide safely and with minimal wait times. They explain everything to you if you're a first-time rider, but it's quick and easy (one person per tube, sit with your bottom in the middle of the tube and arms and legs out), so you can get to the best part: Tubing!!

November 2017 Update: There are now 12 lanes (vs 9 last year) and they are longer!

Each lane is slightly different, so ask the staff which one is the fastest/slowest/suitable for riding tandem with a child. We rode the slow lane since we were riding tandem, but as you can see in the video, it's still pretty fast and super fun! Mats near the end of the track slow you down, and foam crash pads ensure you stop at the end of the line.

When the tracks are glazed, you can zip down the slope over 50 km/hr! If you'd like to go slower, put a grey tray on your tube.

NEW IN 2017/2018: There's a cafe and washrooms near the magic carpet, and the fire pit will be opening soon!

The Day Lodge also has a coffee shop, food court, and lounge; store (ski gloves, jackets, etc.); and washrooms.

Know Before You Go

  • Helmets recommended! You may rent onsite if you don't have one.
  • Purchase a snow tubing lift ticket online, at the Day Lodge, or from a kiosk. The Tube Park is open Thursday to Sunday and annual passholders can tube free on Thursday and Friday nights.
  • The minimum height to ride is 36". Children 36-42" tall can ride tandem on the full-sized lane with an adult (1 person per tube, parent holds onto child's tube). Children 42" and up can ride solo.
  • Kids 12 and under must be supervised in the tube park.
  • Dress warm as it gets chilly! Good winter boots, mitts, goggles, and a neck gaiter are recommended.
  • Keep your ticket (RFID card) as you get a discount when you recharge it!

In Closing

We had a blast at the Acura Tube Park and recommend it for ages 5 & up. Adventurous younger kids would also enjoy it.
